The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) has announced that its Chief Executive, Mark Steward, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC) of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). The appointment also makes Steward a member of the IOSCO Board.
The DFSA is the independent financial services regulator of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The appointment reflects the DFSA’s continued involvement in international regulatory cooperation and financial market standards.
IOSCO is an international organisation that brings together securities regulators from around the world to support cooperation and develop standards for financial markets. Its Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC) focuses on regulatory and market development issues in emerging and growth economies.
The GEMC has 95 members and 22 non-voting associate members, including regulators from ten G20 economies. The committee helps identify regulatory priorities, support market development and contribute to international securities standards.
Commenting on the appointment, Steward noted that he was honoured to take on the role and join the IOSCO Board. He highlighted the growing importance of emerging markets in the global financial system and the role of effective regulation in supporting sustainable market development, investor confidence and financial stability.
He also highlighted the importance of working with regulators around the world to strengthen international cooperation and develop high-quality regulatory standards.
The appointment further reflects the DFSA’s role in international financial regulation and its contribution to the development of financial services within DIFC.
