The DIFC Courts have taken another step towards digital innovation by introducing blockchain-based credentials for court orders and hearing records, allowing their authenticity to be verified globally within seconds.
The new system uses non-transferable digital credentials recorded on the Avalanche C-Chain public blockchain. These credentials allow banks, government authorities, courts and businesses to confirm that documents were issued by the DIFC Courts and have not been altered. This aims to reduce the delays often associated with authenticating legal documents for use across international jurisdictions.
Importantly, the documents themselves and any confidential case information are not stored on the blockchain, helping maintain the confidentiality of legal proceedings.
The initiative is particularly relevant to international businesses and individuals using the DIFC Courts to resolve disputes, including those based outside the UAE. By simplifying document verification across borders, the system offers greater confidence and efficiency when presenting court records to institutions in different jurisdictions.
Developed in partnership with Deca4 Advisory, the initiative builds on the DIFC Courts’ existing adoption of distributed ledger technology. It also supports Dubai’s wider digital transformation ambitions and the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
This development reinforces DIFC’s position as a forward-thinking international business and dispute resolution centre, where technology continues to enhance the security, accessibility and efficiency of legal services.
