Dubai, UAE – 20 February 2026

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has grown beyond its role as a leading financial hub to become one of Dubai’s most dynamic cultural and lifestyle destinations. Home to a range of galleries and creative spaces, the district presents exhibitions throughout the year, weaving art into everyday experiences across its iconic Gate precinct.

Its upcoming programme brings together two exhibitions at Opera Gallery and Perrotin Dubai, creating a cross-generational dialogue between Emirati modernism and contemporary abstraction. The presentations highlight distinct artistic languages shaped by cultural heritage and personal expression.

On view are Al Nayed, a landmark retrospective by Abdulqader Al Rais, and The Drifting Island, a solo exhibition by Berlin-based artist Xiyao Wang.

‘Al Nayed’ by Abdulqader Al Rais at Opera Gallery

Spanning more than five decades, Al Nayed offers an in-depth look at the career of Abdulqader Al Rais, one of the UAE’s most influential modern artists. The retrospective traces the evolution of a practice that has played a defining role in shaping the country’s visual identity.

Highlights include the Alghaf Series, where the desert tree emerges as a symbol of resilience; the Calligraphy (Hurufiyya) Series, which reinterprets Arabic script as expressive abstraction; and the Impressionism Series, capturing traditional architecture through nuanced studies of light and colour.

Together, these works reflect both the enduring impact and continued development of Al Rais’s artistic vision, making Al Nayed a considered survey of a foundational career.

Dates: 26 March – 8 April 2026
Location: Gate Village, Building 3

‘The Drifting Island’ by Xiyao Wang at Perrotin Dubai

With The Drifting Island, Xiyao Wang presents her first solo exhibition in the Middle East. Her paintings centre on the line as a primary means of expression, reducing colour and composition to their essentials. Fine charcoal lines move across white canvas with deliberation, while restrained touches of colour heighten focus and clarity.

Drawing on influences ranging from calligraphy and German Expressionism to disciplines such as yoga, dance, meditation and the guqin, Wang translates rhythm and breath into mark-making. Each gesture captures a precise moment of movement and attention, resulting in compositions that hover between stillness and motion.

Dates: Until 28 February 2026
Location: DIFC Gate Village, Building 5
Opening Hours: Monday 10am 6pm; Tuesday–Saturday 10am 9pm

Together, the exhibitions underscore DIFC’s role as a platform for cultural exchange, presenting both historically significant voices and emerging contemporary perspectives within a walkable, district-wide setting. Easily reached via the Dubai Metro, with the Financial Centre station just a short walk away, DIFC continues to attract collectors, patrons and visitors seeking a vibrant arts experience in the heart of the city.
