Rare Michelangelo Drawing at Christie’s
An exceptionally rare Michelangelo drawing, offering a unique insight into the Renaissance master’s creative process, is now on view at Christie’s, Gate Village, Building 3, DIFC, until Thursday, 15 January. This striking red chalk study, created as a preparatory work for the right foot of the Libyan Sibyl on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, is among only about ten Michelangelo drawings still held privately.
It is also the first previously unrecorded study for the Sistine ceiling ever to be offered at auction. After its limited exhibition in DIFC, the artwork will be auctioned in New York in February 2026, with an estimated value of USD 1.5 million to USD 2 million.
Giada Damen, Specialist in Christie’s Old Master Drawings Department and the expert who identified this rediscovered work, will be present during the viewing period.

DIFC Canvas presents: Ruslan Gudiev’s Shifted Diagonal
Russian artist Ruslan Gudiev’s first exhibition in Dubai, Shifted Diagonal, continues at RARARES Gallery, Gate Avenue 3, DIFC, until 18 February. As part of DIFC Canvas, the show traces Gudiev’s long-term exploration of form and movement, building on his landmark work A Fragment of the Big Diagona, exhibited at MMOMA in 2023.
The exhibition highlights the evolution of his visual language, from expressive abstractions developed in the late 1980s to his design and architecture driven Abstract Composition series of the 2010s and 2020s.
A central feature is The Ancient Stones (2025), a new graphic cycle reflecting Gudiev’s ongoing investigation of the diagonal as a generative force. The exhibition underscores DIFC’s expanding cultural programmed and its commitment to bringing internationally acclaimed artists to the Middle East.
